Recreation
Delisle,
with a population of about 900 people, is located 40 kms.
southwest of Saskatoon on Highway 7. The Delisle & District
Recreation Association, which serves the Town of Delisle and
surrounding area, is in charge of recreational facilities
and programs. A full time leisure services director is employed
to ensure that there are ample programs for young and old
alike.
The Delisle Centennial Arena, home of Delisle Bruins hockey,
is a steel building structure with artificial ice and four
large dressing rooms. Hockey programs offered include senior
and recreational, women's and minor hockey.
The PeeWee, Bantam and Midget age groups play in the Saskatoon
Minor Hockey Association. Junior B hockey returned to
Delisle in the fall of 2008 with the new Delisle Chiefs hockey
team. Outside booking of the skating ice for tournaments,
games or practices is welcome. Contact the Leisure Services Director
at (306) 493-8283 to rent the ice or check out the ice schedule yourself at www.delislecentennialarena.com.
The Delisle Curling Rink, home of past provincial women's
champions Sherry Anderson and her rink, is also a steel building
structure with 3 sheets of artificial ice and a lounge upstairs.
Curling is offered for all age groups and a number of bonspiels
are held throughout the winter. The facility can also be rented
for private functions and bonspiels. Contact Rod Worth at
(306) 493-2505 for details.
The Delisle Town Hall is available for bookings for weddings,
anniversaries, meetings or whatever your needs. For smaller
meetings or functions, the Lodge Room of the Town Hall may
be more suitable. If you are planning a larger summer event,
the Curling Rink or the main Arena can be booked to host your
function. Delisle has had many old time rock and roll cabarets
in the arena including the bands Trooper, Prism, Harlequin
and Honeymoon Suite. The Figure Skating Club craft sale is
another event held every fall in the curling rink. To book
the Town Hall or Lodge Room, contact the Town Office at (306)
493-2242. To book the Curling Rink or Arena for a summer function,
contact the Leisure Services Director at (306) 493-8283.
Delisle also has a ball park containing four diamonds if
you are interested in booking a tournament or practice. There
are booth facilities and RV parking with electrical plug-ins
nearby that would complement the hosting of a tournament.
To book the ball diamonds, contact the Leisure Services Director
at (306) 493-8283.
The Delisle Golf Course is the newest jewel of our recreational
facilities. Opened in 2002, this 9 hole, grass green golf
course utilizes the natural rolling terrain of the valley
on the north end of town. The wide fairways on rolling hills,
large greens, water pond and mature tree plantings make this
course attractive as well as challenging for golfers of all
age or caliber. Two tee boxes offer 2879 and 3109 yardage
with the course being a par 35. The clubhouse, located beside
the paved parking lot by the arena, has beverage
service as well as power cart and club rentals. There is ample
space for RV's and small town shopping is available only a
couple of blocks away. In only a few years of operation, the
Delisle Golf Course has already received rave reviews. To
book a round of golf or a tournament, phone the clubhouse
at (306) 493-3288 or visit their website at www.delislegolf.com. Credit Cards are accepted.
Delisle has two children's playgrounds. A newly constructed
playground for pre-school age children is conveniently located
in the downtown core. For the older children, the playground
at the Elementary School has been modernized to entertain
the youngsters. Delisle also has an established Co-operative
Playschool program for 3 and 4 year olds. These tots are given
an opportunity to interact in a supervised and professional
setting. As well, the Recreation Association offers a playground
program to entertain the youngsters during the summer months.
A tennis court can be found on the west side of the schoolyard.
The tennis court is also used for skateboarding. Three cement
ramps are provided for skateboarding enthusiasts.
Archery is a very prominent sport in Delisle. The Delisle
Archery Association has a building at 302 - 1st Street West
where archery competition or practice can take place indoors.
The Archery Association also has an outdoor range east of
Delisle. To find out more information or to become a member,
contact Mr. Gib Henderson at (306) 493-2906.
The Delisle Senior Citizens' Club offers a number of recreational
activities for seniors in the community. To find out more
on what is offered, please click on the "Organizations"
link found on the home page of this website.
Pike Lake Provincial Park is a short 20 minute drive from
Delisle. The park features excellent campground facilities,
a swimming pool with a water slide, sandy beaches, nature
walks as well as a number of other amenities to choose from.
Whatever your interests might be, there is surely something
available in Delisle or nearby. For the kids, there is hockey,
figure skating, curling, soccer, softball, football, golf,
archery, dance classes and 4-H just to name a few activities.
Check with the Recreation Office at (306) 493-8283 for your
area of interest. If we do not have what you are looking for,
our Recreation Association would be more than willing to see
if your program could be made available.
